A practical way to open and inspect CSV files
A CSV file is easy for software to exchange but not always easy to read as plain text. RomitCSV turns a CSV or TSV file into a structured table so you can check the headers, scan rows, search for a value, and sort a column without opening a full spreadsheet application.
View a CSV file online
Drop a file into the viewer or choose Browse CSV File. The selected file is read by your browser and displayed as a table. The viewer accepts .csv and .tsv files and checks the file size before reading it. Files larger than 50MB are rejected by the tool.
The first row is used as the table header. Rows are then shown with row numbers, and the viewer displays the loaded file name, size, row count, and column count.
Search and sort the data you actually need
Use the table search box to look across the loaded rows, or choose a column from Sort by. You can also click a column's sort control and move through the results with pagination. Rows per page can be set to 10, 25, 50, or 100.
This makes the viewer useful for quick checks such as finding a record, reviewing an export, or checking whether a column contains the values you expected.
What happens to your file?
The viewer uses browser-side JavaScript and the FileReader API to read the selected file. The viewer does not send the selected CSV or TSV contents to a RomitCSV upload endpoint. Your original file is not modified on your device by the viewer.
Useful after the first inspection
The viewer is designed for reading and checking data. Once you know what is in the file, you can move to a more specific CSV tool when the task changes:
CSV viewer limitations to know before you start
This page is a viewer first, not a replacement for a full spreadsheet application. The current upload limit is 50MB. The parser detects one of four delimiters — comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe — from the first non-empty line, so an unusual file format may not parse as you expect. The viewer also treats the first row as the header row.
If your file does not open correctly, check that it is a text-based CSV or TSV file and that its delimiter matches one of the formats the viewer can detect. For structural problems, the CSV Validator is the more appropriate next step.
COMMON QUESTIONS
CSV Viewer FAQ
How do I view a CSV file online?
Open this page, drag a CSV file into the upload area or click Browse CSV File. The file is read in your browser and displayed as a searchable, sortable table.
Can I open a TSV file?
Yes. The viewer accepts both CSV and TSV files. It detects comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe separators from the first non-empty line.
Can I search inside a CSV file?
Yes. After a file is loaded, use Search in table... to search across the displayed data. The matching rows are then paginated.
Can I sort CSV rows?
Yes. Select a column from Sort by or use the sort control in a table header. The viewer supports ascending and descending sorting.
What is the maximum CSV file size?
The current viewer rejects files larger than 50MB.
Can I download the CSV after viewing it?
Yes. The loaded data can be downloaded as a CSV. The viewer also provides a Save as PDF option that opens the browser's print flow for the loaded table.
